FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD and more!
Neighbours, glorious neighbours! We live in a wonderful street in Raglan. Our neighbours are kind and generous in their interactions with us and each other. We often help each other out with physical tasks and collective security. To our continued delight and surprise, produce ranging from freshly caught fish, sweet treats, preserves, vegetables and fruit from our gardens are exchanged. Spontaneous and planned beer, wine and nibbles occasions, coffee and tea times and occasional dinners are part of street life, and much laughter and banter ensues.
During Covid lockdowns we often met outside with spaced distances between us for a street catch-up.
We look out for each other but don’t interfere in each other’s lives - an ideal balance. Neighbours have become our friends and friends look after each other.
There is something about giving and expecting nothing back from your neighbours. We value and appreciate each other and it is a win-win situation for us all.
POINTS to PONDER
Try not to be ‘islands’ in the street you live in. Mix and mingle with each other. We can’t choose our neighbours and sometimes we have to work extra hard to get on with them. Kindness and patience go together too.
Kindness begins in your home, then your street, your community and our society.
Back to food! For some reason the giving and receiving of food is full of ‘feel good’ feelings. Perhaps it’s about the old fashioned sharing of a harvest together. Nothing wrong with that and in 2023 sharing and caring is more needed than ever before.
